At EKC Canterbury Junior College, we believe in providing a caring, supportive environment where every student can thrive.
Our dedicated team works closely with students, ensuring that everyone’s needs are understood and met.
What does wellbeing mean at Junior College?
Wellbeing is more than just physical health; it’s about supporting each student’s overall mental and emotional health too. We recognise that every learner is unique, with different needs and strengths. Our comprehensive support covers:
Learning challenges: Helping students overcome dyslexia, dyspraxia, and other learning difficulties through tailored teaching methods.
Inclusive Learning support: Nurturing talents and providing individualised support for learners that are neurodiverse or experience barriers to learning.
Mental and emotional health: Creating a safe space where students can discuss challenges and access professional guidance.
On-site café and refectory: An ideal safe space for socialising and relaxing between classes, as well as a dedicated student centre to help create independence and growth.
Our goal is to empower students to become confident, independent learners, prepared for future success.

What types of support are available?
New places and new people can be overwhelming and cause anxiety for some students, which is why we have designated mentors at EKC Canterbury Junior College that work with students on their course ensuring they are supported during their studies with the transition. Our services are designed to address a wide range of needs:
- Focused transition activities: Preparing students for their college journey so that they know what to expect and how it may be different from school or home-schooling.
- Available support staff: There is a member of support staff in the classroom for each lesson for students to refer to if they need additional support while studying.
- Dedicated student mentors: Each student is assigned a mentor to meet with to discuss their Junior College experience with. They are available for academic, mental, and emotional advice.
- Access to the Student Wellbeing Centre: Students have a quiet space that they can meet to discuss their issues or relax outside of the classroom environment
- Additional Maths and English support: If a student needs additional support with these key GCSE subjects this is available at Junior College.
- Exam Adjustments: Custom arrangements based on individual requirements to reduce anxiety and stress as much as possible for the students.
We conduct assessments to tailor support and maintain close contact through regular reviews. During your induction, we’ll introduce you to the facilities and resources available to you. As needs change, so does our support because we know flexibility is key.
